2000 Upstate NY State Regional Championships
SENSENIG WINS BY A NOSE AND QUALIFIES FOR ITALY
Don Sensenig from Pocono Lake, PA, edged out Long Island's Dick Heinl and New Jersey's Bill Betts III by one and two points respectively to win the Upstate New York State Regional Championship hosted by Skaneateles Country Club on Saturday and Sunday, July 15 and 16.
Twenty-six Sunfish participated in the Regional, which was held as part of Central New York Yacht Racing Association's annual regatta. Visiting sailors were very impressed with the local weather people as they accurately predicted 100% chance of showers on Saturday, and 60% chance on Sunday with virtually no wind at all. Despite the miserable conditions, the race committee did an excellent job getting in three races and the regatta organizers bent over backward to assure that a good time was had by all.
